Here at Maison Liedberg we are hugely passionate about our local community and local businesses. Although we supply wines all over the country we are based in Brockham in Surrey and our local area is very important to us. We are fortunate to live in an area which not only includes a vineyard that produces some really impressive wines, but also a number of fantastic eateries including many independent restaurants. We also attend many business networking events and have been privileged to meet a great wealth of small business owners.
We believe that the Mole Valley area has so many selling points from the beautiful landscape to the plethora of independent shops on the high street. As a small business ourselves we know that every small business owner will have their own journey story to tell. We really enjoy hearing those stories at events, social occasions and at the wine tastings that we have recently been enjoying putting on for people. Being part of such a great community also allows you the opportunity to give something back and we are proud to have recently become involved in Young Enterprise helping teaching business skills to young people.
Coming up to Christmas and New Year can often be a time for reflection and we have been thinking a lot about how lucky we are to be part of such an exciting local community. We’ve also been thinking about good wines for Christmas and then we had a fantastic idea about bringing the two together (which we’ll come on to in just a moment).
Wine is often an important part of Christmas celebrations, whether it’s finding the right bottle to go with your Christmas lunch; or getting the drinks in to say thanks to your staff for a great year’s work; or sending out gifts to clients to say thanks for choosing us. We’ve got a great range of wines at the moment and we’re particularly keen to tell people about these wines:
Bruno Michel, Cuvée Blanche, Brut Champagne – Christmas isn’t Christmas without a glass of fizz we say and this organic champagne is fantastic. Bruno Michel has been making organic champagne for nearly 20 years so he’s had time to perfect his craft. It’s good value too at just a fraction over £20 a bottle.
Chateau du Cray, Cote Chalonnaise – this is a fantastic red from Burgundy which would go perfectly with your Christmas cheese platter. At under £12 a bottle the cheese board won’t break the bank.
Domaine Denuziller, Måcon Solutré - if you are a white drinker by preference then we’d recommend this to have with your Christmas dinner. As an unoaked Chardonnay it has the good qualities of a Chardonnay with beautiful complexity, but without that oak finish that made Chardonnay unpopular with some people. This is particularly good value at under a tenner a bottle.
Chateau de Haute-Serre, Malbec, Cahors – this was voted number 40 in the top 100 wines in the world by Wine Spectator Magazine. It’s a fantastic dark red Malbec with bags of flavour. We think it is incredible value at less than £15 a bottle.
Olivier Ravoire – Les Versants, Cotes du Rhone – if you prefer drinking red wine then we would recommend this to have with your Christmas turkey. It’s beautifully smooth and juicy and at less than £7 a bottle you won’t mind having all the family for lunch.
