It was an absolute privilege to have a tasting of assorted Pomerol wines
(my favourite wine area) delivered by Paul Mapplebeck.
The Vieux Chateau Certan 1999 was a clear overall winner, a classic wine with beautifully mellow fruit, brilliant smoothness and an intense palate of cherry and red fruit lasting a long time.
I also personally loved the Chateau la Fleur du Gay 2005, which was an excellent blend of vanilla, fruit & smooth rounded tannins.
One American I met described the first time he tasted Pomerol as a "near spiritual experience", an opinion I am not disinclined to agree with!
